After VDL Groep itself announced on Thursday, 7 October that it was the target of a cyber attack, the industrial family business with head office in Eindhoven announced today that its 105 operating companies are almost completely in business. By restoring ‘clean’ data from the timely secured backup environment, locally digitally safe environments have been created and all VDL companies have been able to continue to recover their production activities. Thanks to adequate action by our employees, the damage was limited to a maximum of one day’s worth of data loss.

Dutch companies, knowledge institutes and industry associations join forces in a new innovation program called Battery Competence Center. In this way, the collaborating parties want to build up knowledge and competences in the field of battery technology and strengthen the competitive position of the Dutch manufacturing industry. 

You may be aware VDL Groep has been hit by a cyber-attack. For security reasons, immediately after the attack, we disconnected and isolated all our systems from the outside world, to contain the attack and to protect customers, suppliers, other partners and employees.

VDL Groep and the University of Twente (UT) will intensify their partnership to further high-tech development and production. The two parties have signed a contract to invest in joint research, supported by Holland High Tech (the executive office of the Top Sector High Tech Systems & Materials (HTSM)). The contract involves millions of dollars.

VDL Nedcar has taken an important first step towards securing its long-term future. Based in Born (Netherlands) as part of VDL Groep, the vehicle manufacturer will produce cars for Canoo. This startup from the United States intends to have cars produced at VDL Nedcar until at least 2028. Both parties signed a contract yesterday.

VDL Groep continues to strengthen its ‘smart’ mobility position. Between the end of this year and mid-2023, VDL Automated Vehicles will be supplying as many as 77 automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT), one of the leading and most advanced container terminal operators in Europe. The contract is valued at tens of millions of euros.
